Been here 11 days and still waiting to find out what I miss about Israel. A few things are obvious: there’s no cheap corner electronics store, fruits and vegetables are so pricey you think twice and run for your life, our dog is required not to urinate on typical targets (plastic bags, trash cans, buildings). And, since I arrived, there has been only 1 dry day.
However: the pros still heavily outweigh the cons so far: big windows, great transportation, business hours, hot water is hot and cold is cold (no matter what weather), 24-hour anything, nearby dog-runs, huge parks, fire escapes to lean out over, Sundays (sighhhh), 45-minute washing machines, diversity, English, the New York Times – and, wonderfully, Ben & Jerry’s right on our street corner.
Work is a 15-minute commute. And speaking of work, they’re sending me to the 140 Characters Conference this week. I was lucky enough to have their support in my move from Jerusalem to NYC; now they are extending opportunities for professional and product development as well.
So, in short, it’s pretty great being local.
